I am a landscape oil painter. I divide my time between painting outdoors and in the studio. Outdoors I enjoy the spontaneity required to quickly capture the essence of a place, the most accurate color and value information possible and other transient elements that are present only for an hour or two, at most. The paintings I complete in the field are often framed and shown as they are when I leave a location or used to produce additional paintings back in the studio.
I am influenced by many artists and styles but particularly enjoy representational works and aspects of impressionism that impart more sublime qualities to paintings. The work of Sorolla, Sargent and Innes are big influences. My engineering background informs the technical aspects of my work such as perspective, optics and the physics of light. I have participated in national competitions and exhibits such as Plein Air Telluride, In the Footsteps of Thomas Moran at Zion National Park, American Impressionist Society and Oil Painters of America. My artwork has garnered numerous awards, with over a dozen being 'Best of Show' or '1st Place'. I have also judged several events. My painting adventures have taken me to Spain to compete in a Plein Air event in Andalucia. Southwest Art Magazine featured me as An Artist to Watch.
