Eyeball It!™ is a real studio art program for children and youth (7-12/13), available free online at www.eyeballitart4kids.org.
Eyeball It! Projects cover Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Collage and Clay. The program offers a self-guided ‘workshop’ for kids to do at home with a parent or other adult, no art experience needed. Great for home-schoolers. Projects offer roughly a month of activity, working at a child’s own pace.
Also adaptable for group settings. Lesson Plans available, also free, by emailing the author. The Lesson Plans break the program into 1-hour blocks, and guide setup and cleanup changes that differ from home use.
Eyeball It!™ Projects use both realist and imaginary subject matter. Drawing Exercises are based on looking at the real world.
The program’s founder/creator is artist Ellen Priest. Her jazz-based abstract paintings and her history can be viewed at www.ellenpriest.com. Beginning during her graduate work at Yale Divinity School in the 1970’s, Priest has taught studio art in schools, community arts centers and, from 2002-8, at the University of the Arts (Professional Institute for Educators) in Philadelphia.
