Since the middle ages, the region around Pescia has enjoyed a rich and respected history of papermaking. One of the paper mills in the region even supplied the cardstock selected by Napoleon Bonaparte for his wedding invitations (samples of which can be viewed at the paper museum).
Join India Flint for a paper-dye intensive, during which you will print, colour and stitch into paper as well as exploring drawing and collage; working with fine art papers produced at the 600+ year old Cartiere Magnani paper mill as well as a selection of other delights that India will bring.
During our week together we will construct a complex inspirational journal comprising not only the dyed and embellished papers, but also fresh pages into which you can work after you return home. You will create a beautiful soft cover using leaf-printed silk, with pockets for secreting treasures, and we will make a wrapping cloth to keep it safe.
We may visit a paper museum and a working paper mill. There will be poetry, we will make ink from local materials and harvest leaves from the landscape and along the way India will share her personal folded book techniques, handy for quick notes and sketches.
